Rev. Rachael: (raises symbol of East) Blessed be this union by the element of Air. For it is with each breath with live for each other. With each breath we say, “I love you”. And East is the direction of the Dawn, a symbol of new beginnings.
(raises symbol of South) Blessed be this union by the element of Fire. The spark of love and passion. The deep burning within to love and be loved. And South is the direction of the Noon, a symbol of energy.
(raises symbol of West) Blessed be this union by the element of Water. The deep commitment of the lake. The swift excitement of the river. The refreshing cleansing of the rain. And West is the direction of Evening, a symbol of rest and rejuvenation.
(raises symbol of North) Blessed be this union by the element of Earth. Be a rock of strength for each other. Grow with each other. And North is the direction of Midnight, a symbol of the mysteries of life you two will now share, together.
Welcome beloved family and friends to the marriage of Bride and Groom. We are gathered amongst the elements, the building blocks of life; in the beauty and glory of nature to bear witness to their union, filled with love, hopes, and wishes for them.
In ancient times, a handfasting was a contract between lovers. To remain faithful to one another for a year and a day. Living in a trial marriage. At the end of that time they could walk away form the union, no regrets. Or they could solemnize the union with an official marriage. Today, we bless this union with a promise that it will last a lifetime and a day.
(Bride and Groom join right hands at wrists)
...a vow between bride and groom. To always lend a helping hand. To catch one another when they stumble. To hold one another through the good and the bad. To be bound, flesh to flesh, for as long as love shall last.
(Rev. Rachael lays handfasting cord/s over Bride and Grooms hands.)
Rev. Rachael: If this is your wish today, to be handfasted to one another, til the end of your days, please say, “I do”
Bride and Groom: I do. (Tie the knot)
Rev. Rachael retrieves rings from Dog.
Bride says vows.
Rev Rachael: Bride, take this ring, a reminder of your vows to Groom and the ties that bound you together, place it on his finger, and repeat after me...
Groom, will you accept me for all that I am and all that I will be, even on my darkest day?
Groom: I will
Groom says vows.
Rev Rachael: Groom, take this ring, a reminder of your vows to Lyndsay and the ties that bound you together, place it on her finger, and repeat after me...
Bride, will you accept me for all that I am and all that I will be, even on my darkest day?
Bride: I will.
Rev. Rachael: May all those present in body and in spirit, may the rocks and the trees, the birds and beasts bear witness that on this day Bride and Groom have vowed their love to one another. Blessed Be.
By the power vested in me, by the State of Oregon, I now pronounce you husband and wife.
