Desiderata by Max Ehrmann
Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be critical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy.
Minister: Welcome beloved family and friends to the wedding of Bride and Groom. We are gathered together to witness and celebrate their union.
Bride, do you come here of your own free will to be joined with this man?
Bride: I do.
Minster: Groom, do you come here of your own free will to be joined with this woman?
Groom: I do.
Minister: Please, join your right hands. (hold up handfasting cord) In ancient times, a bride and groom would bind their hands together and make their vows to be bound heart and hand. We do this today in honor of our ancestors (tie the hands) and as a symbol to always lend a helping hand. To catch one another when they stumble. To hold one another through the good and the bad. To embrace in love and support. To be bound, heart and hand, til the end of your days.
May I have the rings?
Groom, please repeat after me:
I wish to join... my life with yours
To stand by your side
And sleep in your arms
To be joy to your heart
And food to your soul
To work as partners
And to live as a family
While we grow old together
To hold you to my heart
But not bind you to my will
I promise to listen carefully
And to speak the truth
To stay with you... through struggles... and pleasures
All the days of my life
Will you accept me... and all that I am?
Bride: I will.
(Groom places ring on Bride's finger)
Minster:

Minister:
May your paths be smooth
And the weather be fair
May your hearts fill with joy
And never a care
May your friends be many
And the good times last
And may you look fondly
Upon the past
May life be kind
And love be true
May many great blessings
Shine upon you
You may now tie the knot (Bride & Groom pull cord ends to 'tie the knot')
By the power vested in me by the State of Washington, I know pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.
Ladies and gentlemen, it is my great honor to introduce to you, Mr and Mrs Groom.
